Regional Safe School

Academy

The Regional Safe School Program (RSSP) serves expulsion-eligible or eligible students with multiple suspensions in grades 6-12. The statewide program began serving Illinois students in FY97 as established by Illinois School Code providing a system of alternative education programs for disruptive students.  The purpose of RSSP is twofold: 1) to increase safety and promote the learning environment in schools and 2) to meet the particular educational needs of disruptive students more appropriately and individually in alternative educational environments.

The Academy serves students in grades 9-12 who are at risk of dropping out or not suited to traditional programs in home high schools.  High Schools within ROE 53 initiate referrals for students and collaborate with administration regarding graduation course plans.  This program is based on online courses in addition to classroom teachers providing small group and individualized instruction support.   Students must be recommended by their home high school and there is a semester tuition fee.  Students with Special Education needs are not permitted in the program.
